In the wild it grows across North America, Altay, Amur, Buryatiya, China North-Central and other regions. Grow it in full sun and most soil types. In UK gardens it is very hardy across most of the UK (RHS H6). It works well for cottage and informal garden, flower borders and beds and wall side borders. It tolerates soil of any pH, well-drained conditions and south-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant out after last frost in fertile, well-drained soil.
