Members of the genus grow from scaly, tunicless bulbs and are noted for their large, prominent flowers; this cultivar follows the same pattern and flowers from June to August. Plants arise from underground bulbs that are commonly buried comparatively deep in the soil profile. In several lily types the base of the bulb can produce stem-roots, rhizomes or stolons that carry numerous small bulbs; these offsets allow clumps to expand and can be lifted or divided when convenient. Propagation and renewal are therefore typically achieved by separating these small bulbs rather than from seed for true-to-type plants. By the standards of the genus, lilies are relatively tall perennials and are well suited to positions where their flowerheads can be seen above lower planting. Because all true lilies are highly toxic to cats, avoid planting where cats have access to leaves or cut stems, and remove spent flowers and debris promptly to reduce risk.
