A medium-sized, semi-evergreen to evergreen shrub to about 2m tall from China with spiny stems, oval, spine-toothed leaves, and clusters of yellow flowers in spring followed by small, bloomy, blue-black berries. A handsome and garden-worthy barberry for a shaded or partly shaded border.
