Lathyrus is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family Fabaceae, and contains approximately 160 species. Commonly known as peavines or vetchlings, they are native to temperate areas, with a breakdown of 52 species in Europe, 30 species in North America, 78 in Asia, 24 in tropical East Africa, and 24 in temperate South America. There are annual and perennial species which may be climbing or bushy.

Lathyrus odoratus var. nanellus 'Lady T Cherub' (Cherub Series) traces to the species of sweet pea long cultivated from the Mediterranean and is offered here as a summer-flowering cultivar. The botanical placement is in the genus Lathyrus within the Fabaceae (legume) family, and it is presented under the Cherub Series name used by breeders. This plant behaves as an annual climber: when support is provided it readily twines and can reach around 1–2 metres. Leaves are pinnate with a terminal tendril that catches and curls around supports. Flowers appear in the UK from June to August; as with many Lathyrus cultivars the blooms are larger than wild forms and are usually scented, making them noticeable in summer borders. Place 'Lady T Cherub' where you can give clear vertical support such as a trellis, fence or obelisk so the tendrils can twine. It suits spaces that need a seasonal climbing accent through the summer months; narrow supports work better than flat surfaces because the terminal tendrils need something to grip as they ascend.
