Lathyrus latifolius, the broad-leaved everlasting pea, is a vigorous, herbaceous perennial climber to 2 m with winged stems, paired, grey-green leaflets and racemes of 5�11 vivid, purplish-pink flowers 2�3 cm wide in summer. A tough and long-flowering border climber for a sunny fence, wall or obelisk.

Lathyrus, the peas and vetches, can be annuals or herbaceous or evergreen perennials, mostly climbing, with pinnate leaves ending in a tendril and showy, pea-like flowers, fragrant in some species. Popular cottage-garden climbers and border plants.
