Gunnera chilensis is a clump-forming perennial in the family Gunneraceae from southern Chile and Argentina, notable for very large palmate leaves and tall flowering panicles. The plant produces flowers in the UK from June to August. Stems bear numerous coarse projections and the species has been grown as an ornamental outside its native range. It has a history of spreading from garden sites in some countries, so size and placement should be considered before planting.
