Cypripedium japonicum, known as the Japanese cypripedium and Korean lady's slipper, is a species of orchid. It is native to Japan, Korea and China (Anhui, Gansu, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang). Grow it in partial shade and most soil types. In UK gardens it is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). It works well for city and courtyard gardens, cottage and informal garden, patio and container plants, rock garden and underplanting of roses and shrubs. It tolerates soil of any pH, moist but well-drained conditions and east-facing, north-facing and west-facing aspects. Grow in specialist orchid compost. Provide bright, indirect light.
