Nepenthes alata is an evergreen, carnivorous perennial characterized by its elongated, strap-like leaves that feature a prominent midrib. This midrib extends into a tendril, which can culminate in a hollow pitcher that displays two distinct vertical ridges, often referred to as "wings." The pitchers are slender and swell into a bulbous shape in the lower third, nearest to the tendril, and they possess a thickened rim alongside an apical lid.
