A clump-forming, variable perennial with hairy, scallop-edged and lobed leaves that are a dark emerald flushed with reddish-purple often turning deeper shades of red, purple and bronze in winter. Upright, wiry stems carry tiny, pink-fringed, pale green, bell-shaped flowers from spring into early summer.
