A large, evergreen tree to about 20m tall from South Africa with very large, broadly ovate to heart-shaped, leathery, dark green leaves and tall, dense spikes of small, tubular, blue-purple flowers in summer and autumn. A dramatic and bold-leaved specimen for a warm, humid, frost-free tropical or subtropical garden.
