Lonicera canadensis (American fly honeysuckle or Canada fly honeysuckle) is a flowering deciduous, perennial, phanerophytic shrub which is monoclinous and grows 1–2 m (3 ft 3 in – 6 ft 7 in) tall. The fruit is fed upon by a variety of avian frugivores including the American robin (Turdus migratorius) and northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis). Habitat: Dry to moist upland woods, occasionally found in coniferous swamps and growing along streams. Stems: The main stems are light brown round, fibrous or furrowed bark not exfoliating, ascending or erect. It is native to North America, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana and other regions. In the garden it prefers full sun and partial shade and most soil types. In UK gardens it is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). Suggested uses include cottage and informal garden, city and courtyard gardens and coastal. It tolerates soil of any pH, moist but well-drained conditions and east-facing, north-facing and west-facing aspects.
