Hyacinthus is a genus of bulbous herbs and spring-blooming perennials. They are fragrant flowering plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae and are commonly called hyacinths. The genus is native predominantly to the Eastern Mediterranean region from the south of Turkey to the Palestine region, although naturalized more widely.

Hyacinthus multiflora 'Blauw' is a bulb-grown hyacinth cultivar with a columnar upright habit and deciduous leaves, flowering in March to April. As a bulbous plant it is used both outdoors and under glass and is listed for use as a houseplant or in a conservatory as well as in borders and containers. Plant bulbs in a free-draining neutral loam and position them in full sun where possible; a sheltered aspect to the south, east or west reduces exposure to cold wind. The rating H4 corresponds to average winter hardiness in UK gardens, so plant where soils do not remain waterlogged and provide some shelter in exposed sites.
