It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. It is native to Villavicencio, Cuenca de Río Claro, Brazil Northeast, Brazil North, Brazil South and other regions. In the garden it prefers full sun and loam soil. In UK gardens it is half-hardy and may need winter protection in colder areas (RHS H3). Suggested uses include ornamental. It tolerates neutral soils, moist conditions and south-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.
