Tetradium glabrifolium is a deciduous shrub or small tree that can reach heights of up to 20 meters. Its fragrant, pinnate leaves can grow up to 40 centimeters long, consisting of 3 to 19 papery leaflets that are either ovate or lanceolate in shape. During the summer months, the plant produces clusters of small flowers that range in color from green to yellow or white. These are succeeded by rounded, fleshy seed pods that turn red and split open to expose glossy black seeds.
