Ochrosia elliptica, commonly known as pokosola, is an evergreen tree belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It thrives in full sun with a south-facing, sheltered aspect and prefers fertile, well-drained loam soil with a neutral pH. Suitable for tropical-style gardens, this cultivar is best used as a specimen plant. It is hardy to H1b in the UK and can be propagated by seed or semi-ripe cuttings. Ochrosia oppositifolia grows as a small to medium-sized tree up to 25 m (80 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 50 cm (20 in). Its flowers feature a creamy to white corolla. Its habitat is coastal forest, bush or open areas to 100 m (300 ft) altitude, rarely inland. Ochrosia oppositifolia is native to regions from the Seychelles through tropical Asia to the Pacific. In the garden it prefers full sun and loam soil. In UK gardens it needs subtropical warmth and glass protection in the UK (RHS H1b). Suggested uses include specimen plant and tropical-style gardens.
