Puya alpestris is a perennial bromeliad from Chile that produces a memorable summer flowering display. It favours open, exposed sites in full sun and performs best in well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. Water requirements are low to moderate, so avoid waterlogged positions. It suits rock gardens, xeriscaping and containers where drainage can be controlled.

Mountain Puya (Puya alpestris) prefers full sun and sharply drained, sandy or rocky soil and flowers July to September.
