Athyrium goeringianum is a terrestrial fern in the family Athyriaceae, placed within the lady-fern genus Athyrium. The genus contains around 180 species with a cosmopolitan distribution and is noted for an inconspicuous indusium — the small membrane that covers sori on frond undersides. Several Athyrium species are recorded as larval foodplants for moths, a detail of interest to wildlife-minded gardeners. Identification of these ferns often depends on frond and sori characters rather than showy flowers.
