Epilobium dodonae is a species placed in the Epilobium group within the family Onagraceae and is associated with the Chamaenerion (fireweed) grouping. As part of Epilobium, it belongs to a predominantly herbaceous assemblage that includes both annual and perennial forms. Flowering in the UK occurs from June to September. Taxonomy in this section of Epilobium has been revised repeatedly, with several formerly separate genera incorporated into the single genus by recent authors.
