Echeveria atropurpurea is a species of succulent plant in the Crassulaceae family. It is a perennial commonly known as chapetona or siempreviva, and is a endemic to Central Veracruz, Mexico in tropical deciduous forests. It is noted for its fast growing, easy cultivation, and red to yellow flowers. It is currently threatened by habitat loss. In the garden it prefers full sun and loam and sand soil. In UK gardens it is tender and needs frost-free protection over winter (RHS H2). Suggested uses include houseplants, patio and container plants, sub-tropical, bedding and conservatory and greenhouse. It tolerates soil of any pH, well-drained conditions and south-facing, east-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in very well-drained, gritty compost. Full sun.
