Dipteronia sinensis is a deciduous flowering shrub or small tree, reaching 10–15 m tall. The leaf arrangement is opposite and pinnate. The inflorescences are paniculate, terminal or axillary. The flowers have five sepals and petals; staminate flowers have eight stamens, and bisexual flowers have a two-celled ovary. In the wild it grows across China North-Central, China South-Central and China Southeast. Grow it in full sun and loam soil. In UK gardens it is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). It works well for specimen tree and woodland garden. It tolerates neutral soils, well-drained conditions and south-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.
