Dacrydium guillauminii, commonly known as cat-tail Rimu or swamp Dacrydium, is a species of conifer in the family Podocarpaceae. It is found only in New Caledonia. It is a slow growing shrub or small tree with roots that grow in water, and reaches a height between 1 and 2 metres. The species occurs on the banks of rivers and lakes in the south of Grand Terre, the largest island of New Caledonia. Grow it in full sun and partial shade and loam soil. In UK gardens it is hardy through an average UK winter (RHS H4). It works well for specimen tree and woodland garden. It tolerates neutral soils, moist but well-drained conditions and south-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.

About the genus

Dacrydium is a genus of conifers belonging to the podocarp family Podocarpaceae. Sixteen species of evergreen dioecious trees and shrubs are presently recognized. The genus was first described by Solander in 1786, and formerly included many more species, which were divided into sections A, B, and C by Florin in 1931.
