Carex baccans, the crimson-seeded sedge, is a species of flowering plant in the family Cyperaceae, with a widespread distribution in subtropical and tropical Asia; most of the Indian Subcontinent, southern China, most of Malesia (except Borneo), and on to New Guinea. An endophytic bacteria species, Glycomyces endophyticus, has been isolated from its roots. In the garden it prefers full sun and partial shade and loam and sand soil. In UK gardens it is fully hardy throughout the UK (RHS H7). Suggested uses include city and courtyard gardens, cottage and informal garden, patio and container plants, rock garden, low maintenance and flower borders and beds. It tolerates soil of any pH, moist but well-drained, poorly-drained conditions and east-facing, north-facing, south-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.
