The plant forms a low carpet of green foliage with larger heart-shaped leaves at the base and narrower lance-shaped leaves higher on the stems. It prefers full sun to partial shade in moist but well-drained loam or sandy soils and suits sheltered, south-, east- or west-facing sites.
