Flowers solitary or up to 3 in a cluster, 2 - 4 cm in diam. Camellia caudata occurs in semi-evergreen, evergreen and deciduous montane forests at the elevations of 500 - 2000 m in China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand (Fig. 2), and Vietnam. Grow it in full shade and partial shade and most soil types. In UK gardens it is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). It works well for city and courtyard gardens, cottage and informal garden and patio and container plants. It tolerates acid and neutral soils, moist but well-drained, well-drained conditions and north-facing, west-facing and east-facing aspects.
