Callicarpa pedunculata, commonly known as beautyberry or velvet-leaf, is a species of plant in the mint and sage family Lamiaceae. It is native to tropical areas from northeast India and southeast China, through the Philippines and New Guinea to eastern Australia. It was first described by Scottish botanist Robert Brown in 1810. In the garden it prefers full sun and partial shade and most soil types. In UK gardens it is very hardy across most of the UK (RHS H6). Suggested uses include cottage and informal garden, low maintenance, cut flowers and flower borders and beds. It tolerates soil of any pH, well-drained conditions and east-facing, south-facing and west-facing aspects.
