The species is placed in the genus Lomaria in the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group classification of 2016 (PPG I), but is often retained in genus Blechnum as Blechnum nudum. Lomaria nuda, commonly known as the fishbone waterfern, is a fern that grows up to a metre tall, and is abundant in rainforest and eucalyptus forests in eastern Australia. Grow it in partial shade and loam soil. In UK gardens it needs subtropical warmth and glass protection in the UK (RHS H1b). It works well for houseplants, patio and container plants, sub-tropical and conservatory and greenhouse. It tolerates acid soils, moist but well-drained conditions and north-facing or east-facing aspects. Plant in moist, humus-rich soil in shade.
