Biarum davisii is an attractive species which, until the discovery of B. ditschianum , ranked as the most unusual taxon in the genus. Apart from its remarkably small size, characteristics such as the basically ovate foliage, deeply urceolate spathe tube, pinkish brown spathe and sweet lilac-like smell when in blossom are all unique in the genus. Staminate flowers in a cylindrical zone 8–10 × 2–3 mm, anthers cream. Staminodes a few scattered vestigial filaments may be found on the interstice, usually above the pistillate fl owers. In the wild it grows across Kriti. Grow it in full sun and loam soil. In UK gardens it is hardy in most of the UK (RHS H5). It works well for rock gardens, alpine beds and containers. It tolerates neutral soils, well-drained conditions and south-facing aspects. Plant at appropriate depth in well-drained soil.
