Arisaema triphyllum, the Jack-in-the-pulpit, is a species of flowering plant in the arum family Araceae. It is a member of the Arisaema triphyllum complex, a group of four or five closely related taxa in eastern North America. The specific name triphyllum means "three-leaved", a characteristic feature of the species, which is also referred to as Indian turnip, bog onion, and brown dragon. Used without qualification, the name Arisaema triphyllum is ambiguous. Grow it in partial shade and loam and sand soil. In UK gardens it is half-hardy and may need winter protection in colder areas (RHS H3). It works well for cottage and informal garden, flower borders and beds and underplanting of roses and shrubs. It tolerates acid and neutral soils, moist but well-drained conditions and north-facing, east-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant at appropriate depth in well-drained soil.
