Aquilegia pyrenaica, common name Pyrenean columbine, is a species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. It is endemic to the Pyrenees where it grows on grassland and in rocky places. It was first described in 1805 by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle who gave it the name Aquilegia pyrenaica. In the garden it prefers full sun and partial shade and loam and sand soil. In UK gardens it is very hardy across most of the UK (RHS H6). Suggested uses include cottage gardens, informal spaces, wildlife gardens and cut flowers. It tolerates soil of any pH, moist but well-drained conditions and south-facing, east-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.
