Amaryllis belladonna 'Barberton' is a columnar upright cultivar of the Amaryllis genus, belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family. This deciduous plant thrives in full sun and is best grown in sheltered locations with a south, east, or west-facing aspect. It prefers moist but well-drained loam soil that can be acid, alkaline, or neutral in pH. Hardy to UK zone H2, it is suitable for cultivation as a houseplant, in conservatories or greenhouses, and can also be used as cut flowers. Propagation is achieved by removing offsets in autumn.

About the genus

Amaryllis is the only genus in the subtribe Amaryllidinae. It is a small genus of flowering bulbs, with two species. The better known of the two, Amaryllis belladonna, is a native of the Western Cape region of South Africa, particularly the rocky southwest area between the Olifants River Valley and Knysna.
