It was first described by Ferdinand von Mueller as Alpinia racemigera, and given its current name by Rosemary Margaret Smith. Pleuranthodium racemigerum, commonly known as orange fruited ginger, is a plant in the ginger family Zingiberaceae endemic to Queensland, Australia. It grows in well-developed rainforest and is mostly restricted to the wet tropics region. In the garden it prefers full sun and loam soil. In UK gardens it needs a warm, frost-free position in the UK (RHS H1c). Suggested uses include patio and container plants and flower borders and beds. It tolerates neutral soils, moist but well-drained conditions and south-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in a suitable position. Water during establishment.
