It was first described in 1887 as Agapetes meiniana by Ferdinand von Mueller. Paphia meiniana is a plant in the Ericaceae family. It is endemic to north-east Queensland, growing in the wet tropics, as an epiphyte in the crowns of large trees, looking much like a vine. On rocky summits it grows as a shrub. In the garden it prefers partial shade and loam and sand soil. In UK gardens it is tender and needs frost-free protection over winter (RHS H2). Suggested uses include patio and container plants and wall side borders. It tolerates acid and neutral soils, moist but well-drained conditions and east-facing, south-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
