Actinidia callosa, the Himalayan kiwi vine, is a species of flowering plant in the Chinese gooseberry family Actinidiaceae. A deciduous climber reaching 30 m (98 ft), it is found in a wide variety of habitats at elevations from 400 to 2,600 m (1,300 to 8,500 ft). Cultivated for its fruit, there is considerable doubt that it is a good species given vagrancies in the distributions of its varieties and its variable chromosome numbers. Grow it in full sun and most soil types. In UK gardens it is very hardy across most of the UK (RHS H6). It works well for city and courtyard gardens. It tolerates acid and neutral soils, moist but well-drained conditions and south-facing and west-facing aspects. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Provide support.

About the genus
Actinidia is a genus of woody and, with a few exceptions, dioecious plants native to temperate eastern Asia, occurring throughout most of China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, and extending north to southern areas of Russian Far East and south into Indochina. The genus includes shrubs growing to 6 metres tall, and vigorous, strong-growing vines, growing up to 30 m (100 ft) in tree canopies. They mostly tolerate temperatures down to around −15 °C (5 °F), and some are much hardier.
