Lutyens & Fitzgerald

About

Catherine FitzGerald and Mark Lutyens, formally partnered after years of informal collaboration, working with historical gardens and wild settings.

After many years of informal partnership, Catherine FitzGerald and Mark Lutyens have formally joined forces. The practice has a particular feel for breathing new life into historical gardens, creating atmospheric, romantic spaces with a touch of wildness, playing with scale and proportion and favouring bold, architectural planting schemes that can be maintained well. Both designers have spent years developing personal gardens — FitzGerald at her family home in Co. Limerick, Lutyens on Exmoor — and that slow, accumulated horticultural knowledge underpins the work. Current projects include a garden at Ballyfin in Ireland and a retreat in the Scottish Highlands.
