Alistair W Baldwin

About

A Yorkshire-based practice combining award-winning country house projects with a passion for craftsmanship and reclaimed materials.

Much sought-after in the north of England, Alistair Baldwin is the founder of AWB Associates and runs the Yorkshire School of Garden Design, bringing design education alongside his practice. Recent commissions include the gardens at Grantley Hall in Ripon and a collaboration with architect Ben Pentreath on a small country estate. Baldwin is a notable advocate for traditional craftsmanship and the intelligent use of reclaimed materials, with the studio's work characterised by structural confidence, generous use of trees and hedging, and a sensibility that prizes timelessness over trend. The bones of a Baldwin garden — its floorscape, its hedges, its established trees — are designed to outlast the planting many times over.
