Doryanthes palmeri is a tender succulent that can reach heights of up to 2.5 meters and spread up to 3 meters wide. It features rosettes of elongated, lanceolate leaves that are a vibrant green, typically measuring between 2.5 and 3 meters in length. Initially upright, the leaves eventually take on an arching form. Mature specimens develop long stems that can extend between 3 and 4 meters, also displaying an upright then arching posture. These stems bear smaller leaves and form dense, oblong flower clusters, reaching up to 1 meter in length. The clusters consist of deep red bracts that encase tubular flowers, measuring 4 to 6 centimeters long, displaying a rich red or reddish-brown exterior and a pale red or white interior, blooming in late spring.
