Doryanthes excelsa, the Australian giant lily, is an enormous, rosette-forming perennial from New South Wales producing a massive basal rosette of sword-like, fibrous leaves to 2 m long. After many years, a tall, upright flowering spike to 5 m emerges bearing a large terminal cluster of tubular, red flowers. A spectacular architectural specimen for a frost-free garden or large heated greenhouse.
