About

A compact, aromatic, sub-shrubby perennial from rocky, high-altitude habitats in central Asia, with small, densely hairy, ovate leaves on erect, branching stems and small, tubular, two-lipped, lilac to pinkish-purple flowers in whorled clusters in summer. An interesting and unusual plant for a sunny, sharply drained rock garden.

About the genus

Zygopetalum consists of around 14 species of orchid, native to the humid forests of South America and Brazil. They are known for their scented, waxy flowers. These long-lived blooms can be patterned in hues of green, purple, burgundy and raspberry.
