A cormous perennial to about 60cm tall from South Africa's winter-rainfall region with erect, sword-like, mid-green leaves and unbranched spikes of small, tubular, coral-orange to red flowers in spring and early summer. A tender Watsonia for a warm, frost-free garden or cool glasshouse in moist, well-drained, acidic soil.

About the genus

Widdringtonia includes herbaceous and sometimes woody species grown for their ornamental merit. The genus is represented in gardens by selected species and cultivars suited to a range of growing conditions
