A rhizomatous, deciduous perennial from the mountains of Yunnan, China, to about 1m tall, with broad, pleated, mid-green leaves and branched panicles of small, greenish-white flowers in summer. A rarely grown but handsome species for a moist, shaded, woodland garden or sheltered border.
