A compact, evergreen shrub to about 60cm tall from Hawaii (ohelo), with small, leathery, broadly ovate, dark green leaves and short racemes of small, urn-shaped, pink-red flowers, followed by red or yellow edible berries. A sacred plant in Hawaiian culture, suited to a sheltered, mild position in acidic, well-drained soil.
