A low-growing, evergreen perennial to about 20cm from damp New Zealand montane habitats with broadly ovate, slightly leathery, dark green leaves and erect, wiry scapes bearing flat-topped, rounded clusters of small, white flowers in summer, followed by small, round, red berries. A choice New Zealand native for a moist, cool, shaded position.
