A vigorous, large deciduous shrub to about 5m tall from China and Taiwan with broadly ovate, deeply veined, dark green leaves and large, branching panicles of small, creamy-white flowers in summer, followed by ribbed, winged fruits turning orange in autumn. A handsome and bold foliage plant for a sheltered, moist, well-drained woodland garden.
