About

This tall, tender palm tree with a sturdy trunk, sometimes swollen around the middle, and arching, pinnate leaves composed of many linear leaflets. Pale yellow flowers are borne in flowerspikes to 1m long in summer; these are followed by orange fruits.

About the genus

Syagrus are a genus of ornamental palms which are native to South America. Related to the coconut, they have single, normally spineless stems and produce drooping fruit.
