A tufted, tap-rooted perennial to about 80cm tall from woodland margins and hedgerows in western Europe with finely divided, hairy, mid-green leaves and erect, branched stems bearing domed umbels of small, white flowers in early summer, followed by rough, bristly, ridged fruits. A common native perennial suitable for a wild or woodland garden.
