CultivationThrives in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, but will tolerate a range of conditions and planting positions except for dry soils in full sun. Creeping rootstock can spread rapidly in favourable conditions and need restraining; see bamboo control and bamboo cultivation
PruningRemove weak, dead, damaged or spindly stems in spring and thin to show off stems to best effect. This species can also benefit from being cut down each year in late winter or early spring
