About

Salix fargesii, Farges' willow, is a wide-spreading deciduous shrub to 3 m with glossy-dark-green, elliptic leaves to 18 cm long with impressed veins. Slender, erect catkins to 12 cm (males) or 18 cm (females) are produced in spring. Stout, glossy-green branchlets become glossy dark-brown in their second year and bright-red winter buds add winter interest. A distinctive and ornamental willow for a moist, sunny garden.

About the genus
