About
Rhododendron wiltonii, the wrinkled-skin rhododendron, is an evergreen shrub to 3.5 m with broadly elliptic, dark-green leaves with deeply impressed veins and reddish-brown felting beneath. Dense clusters of 10 bell-shaped, pale-pink or white flowers spotted dark red are produced in mid to late spring. A handsome and ornamental species for a sheltered, moist, acid woodland garden.
About the genus
Rhododendron, the rhododendrons and azaleas, are a vast genus of evergreen and deciduous shrubs and trees producing simple leaves � sometimes with a dense, colourful indumentum beneath � and funnel-shaped, bell-shaped or tubular flowers in a wide range of colours in spring and early summer. They thrive in moist, acid, humus-rich, well-drained soil in dappled shade.

Care notes
CultivationGrow in moist but well-drained, humus rich, acidic soil, in partial or dappled shade. Choose a site away from frost pockets and sheltered from strong winds, and do not allow plants to dry out. Mulch annually, ideally with leaf mould. See rhododendron cultivation for more detailed advice
