About
Rhododendron moupinense, the Moupin rhododendron, is a compact evergreen shrub to around 1.2 m with small, narrowly oval, glossy dark-green, scaly-backed leaves. Small clusters of white or pink flowers, sometimes speckled purple, are produced very early in late winter to early spring. A beautiful early-flowering rhododendron for a sheltered, moist, acidic garden.

Rhododendron, one of the largest and most diverse shrub genera, includes evergreen and deciduous species and hybrids ranging from dwarf alpines to large trees, all preferring moist, well-drained, acidic soil in sheltered positions with dappled shade or full sun.

Care notes
CultivationGrow in moist but well-drained, humus rich, acidic soil, in sun or light shade. Choose a site away from frost pockets and sheltered from strong winds. Mulch annually, ideally with leaf mould. See rhododendron cultivation for more detailed advice
