A compact, mat-forming, evergreen shrub from the high-altitude moorlands and bogs of the Andes with tiny, leathery, dark green leaves and small, urn-shaped, pink flowers followed by small, edible, dark berries. A rare South American Vaccinium for cool, moist, very acidic conditions in a peat garden or alpine house.
